First name: Pedro

Title: Electrical Engineer
Worked for Joy Global since: 2008
Why did you want to be an engineer?
Since I was a kid, I have been very curious about how things work, especially electrical and electronic components. By the time I was about 12 years old, I knew I wanted to study engineering.
Describe your daily work responsibilities...
Since I was a child, I always liked to take things apart and put them back together. At age 13, I very good at mathematics and physics in high school. I enjoyed reading books on electronics that my father used and I started gaining a strong interest. So, when I was 15, I decided to study Mechatronics Engineering, which combined mechanical engineering with electronics.
What are your daily responsibilities in your role?
I am currently in the product support department and field service at the same time at Joy Global Mexico. What I do on a day-to-day basis is support our current product line for shovels - especially AC shovels and sometimes PreVail. What is expected of me is to help our customers save costs and optimize their machine's availability and productivity. We offer a solution for all of our customers' challenges. I believe that if I focus on the customer, they'll feel supported by our technical personnel and, of course, our brand.
How has the work you do made a difference for your customers?
I believe customers want to be heard. So we listen, focus on their needs, and provide the solutions.
Where you given any advice that impacted you to become an engineer?
This came from my father: "Do not waste your time trying to understand the world. Go over it, study, research, and go farther than I could go".
