This May, 50 employees in Longview, TX, and Milwaukee, WI, left behind their computers, desks, CNC machines, and welding gear to take on the very important role of teacher for a day. This volunteer activity was in support of Junior Achievement's "JA in a Day" program. Junior Achievement is the world's largest organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs.

The JA in a Day program brings in volunteers to prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace. Students put these lessons into action and learn the value of contributing to their communities.

Brenda, Benefits and Wellness Specialist - Wheel Loaders, said "Longview employees volunteered their time and talent in support of 197 fourth and fifth grade students attending Ware Elementary, our partner school. These students enjoyed hands-on training on the subjects of "Our Region" and "Our Nation" related to personal finance, supply chain, entrepreneurship, and much more. These concepts result in a message that inspires and empowers students to believe in themselves and that they can truly make a difference in the world."

In Milwaukee, employees marked their seventh year at Morgandale School, teaching K5 through seventh grade, reaching nearly 500 students. Sergio, Sr. Paint Engineer - Global Paint Operations, has volunteered the past two years. "It's important to support organizations such as Junior Achievement on their mission to empower young people to own their economic success and the fact that I get to be a teacher for a day and can potentially make a difference in a child's life is a great feeling! I hope the students know that anything is possible. If they work hard, their dreams have no limits. I am proud to work for a company like Joy Global that continues to invest in our community."

Junior Achievement is a global organization which makes it the perfect partner for Joy Global. JA has programs not only throughout the US, but around the world including Canada, Chile, China, Russia and South Africa. Junior Achievement teaches children about the local and global economy, helping them to be prepared to be strong contributors to the workplace and society.
