As part of serving the community and team building, under the direction of Derrick Word, Controller, Longview Finance employees Cindy Allen, Jeanette Barney, Susan Glover, Melissa Higgins, Charlie Jones, Kevin Lambright, and Rich McCracken found an opportunity to help out in the Longview community and serve the needs of others. In August 2016 and again in February 2017, their team served hot meals at the Highway 80 Rescue Mission.
When asked why she volunteered, Cost Accountant Susan Glover said “I feel that as a company we need to be seen giving back, being involved with the community. Helping out with Highway 80 Rescue Mission gives us that opportunity. During the time that we are there we get to serve, interact and have a great fellowship with others that may not be as fortunate as we are.”
The Mission has been reaching out and touching lives for over 60 years. For many men, their Recovery Program is the opportunity for a new start. “Some need just a hand up, while others require more intensive, long term assistance. The Women & Families Shelter serves the community’s growing number of homeless women and mothers with children. The Mission is here to meet all their needs, both physical and spiritual, and to utilize the services of other community agencies as needed.”
In their service to the less fortunate, the Finance team also provided encouragement for those seeking help. Charlie Jones, Assistant Controller, said that is one of the reasons he volunteered “To provide encouragement to others – we all need that in life.”
The Finance Team collected a ‘wish list’ of food and supply items needed by the Mission and they purchased and delivered these items in February. The Finance employees are looking forward to finding opportunities within the Longview community to be of service on a quarterly basis. This is a great way for our employees to represent Joy Global!
