For decades, Joy conveyor idlers have been utilized is some of the most productive material handling applications around the world.  Joy idlers and return rolls are available for CEMA B, C, D, E, and F applications.

CEMA B (ball bearing)

Our CEMA B ball bearing roll design features:

  • 17 mm solid shaft

CEMA C (ball bearing)

CEMA C (tapered roller bearing)

Our CEMA C tapered roller bearing design features:

  • ¾” solid shaft
  • ¾” tapered roller bearing
  • Grease-filled multiple path labyrinth seal
  • Counter-bored roll shell, protected weld

HC series

The HC series idlers meet CEMA C and D (troughing idlers through 36” belt width) requirements and are produced using proprietary manufacturing techniques that allow adjustment of the bearing end-play setting to precise engineered specifications, providing absolute consistency roll to roll.

The 3/4”modified geometry automotive-class tapered roller bearing idler roll features an advanced five-stage seal design that ensures long operation life without re-lubrication:

  • Exterior shield provides an initial barrier to divert contaminants away from bearing cavity
  • Flinger employs natural centrifugal forces to redirect potential contaminants away from the bearing cavity
  • Grease-filled labyrinth seal retards lateral movement of contaminants
  • Contact lip seal provides additional sealing protection and keeps lubricant in the bearing cavity
  • Rear seal provides added protection for the grease reservoir

The HC series idlers feature the following:

  • Counter-bored roll shell, protected weld
  • Available in sealed only

3000 series

The 3000 series exceeds CEMA D idler load standards and is designed for heavy-duty applications. The 3000 Series idlers are available in belt widths from 36” to 72”. An up-to-1 1/2” engineered shaft (reduced to ¾” at bearing) is available for additional load capacity on all return rolls and all 42” belt width and wider center troughing rolls.

Bearing protection features include:

  • External shield to divert contaminants away from the bearing cavity
  • Flinger that uses natural centrifugal force to direct contaminants away from the bearing cavity
  • Horizontal labyrinth seal to retard lateral movement of contaminants
  • Vertical labyrinth seal for additional contaminant protection
  • Contact lip seal to keep lubricant in the bearing
  • Rear seal to provide a large grease reservoir for the bearing cavity

CEMA D (ball bearing)

Our CEMA D ball bearing roll design features:

  • 1” solid shaft, reduced to 25 mm at bearing
  • Special 25 mm 6305 ball bearing
  • Grease-filled multi-path labyrinth seal

CEMA D (tapered roller bearing)

Our CEMA D tapered roller bearing roll design features:

HD-1500

The HD-1500 is a heavy-duty idler meeting the requirements for today’s higher capacity CEMA D applications up to 1500 lb. CEMA load rating.

HX series

HX series idlers are available with “open” or “2RS factory-sealed” deep-groove ball bearings for CEMA D and CEMA E applications:

  • HX-30 idler incorporates a 6306 (30 mm) bearing that exceeds CEMA D specifications
  • HX-40 idler incorporates a 6308 (40 mm) bearing that exceeds CEMA E specifications

The HX series idlers feature the following:

  • Back seal that allows for a larger grease reservoir for “open” bearing rolls
  • Flinger to employ natural centrifugal forces generated by a rotating idler roll, redirecting potential contaminants away from the bearing cavity
  • Triple labyrinth seal to retard lateral movement and provide a barrier to contaminants reaching the bearing
  • Counter-bored shell with protected weld contributes to proper bearing alignment
  • Lip seal to provide added protection for the bearing

Both idlers are available in a wide range of application-specific bearing and seal designs and are paired with a heavy-duty frame design (incorporating die-formed end brackets) for maximized rigidity. 

H-Plus series (regreasable)

The H-Plus series idler is a heavy-duty, regreasable precision idler that meets CEMA D requirements.

The H-Plus series idlers feature the following:

  • Up to 1 3/8” engineered shaft (reduced to ¾” at bearing) is available for additional load capacity on all return rolls and all 42” belt width and wider center troughing rolls
  • Adjusting nut provides additional protection to seal area and establishes a very precise bearing adjustment
  • Extra-heavy die-formed bracket is designed with super-wide base and direct mounting to end angle
  • Inverted angle base is a self-cleaning design eliminates roll and belt damage from material buildup
  • Re-lubrication system includes bearings that are positively greased from one fitting on either side; positive purging of the bearing cavity prevents excessive back pressure which could blow seals and lock rolls
  • Combination lip and labyrinth seal is a unique, precision die-cast nut and triple horizontal labyrinth seal provide three baffles to keep contaminants out; lip seal contacts the precision zinc die-cast surface to provide maximum seal integrity
  • Modified geometry tapered roller bearings provide more bearing contact area than ball bearings, spreading the load over a larger area to relieve stress and enhance bearing life under heavy loads and impact

CEMA E (tapered roller bearing)

Our CEMA E tapered roller bearing roll design features:

  • 1 1/4” tapered roller bearing
  • Sealed or regreasable
  • Grease-filled, multiple path labyrinth seal
  • Counter-bored roll shell, protected weld

4000 series

The 4000 series exceeds CEMA E idler load standards and is designed for extra heavy-duty applications.

Roll features include:

  • Contact lip seal for grease retention and dust exclusions
  • Outer labyrinth dust shield to retard dust and dirt contaminants
  • Large diameter shaft for higher load carrying capacity and longer idler life
  • Large grease reservoir for additional supply of grease for lubrication
  • Back lip seal for grease retention
  • Extra heavy-duty tapered roller bearing for withstanding rugged service and high-capacity conditions

SDX-2200

The SDX-2200 is a super-duty idler meeting the requirements for today’s higher capacity CEMA E applications up to 2200 lb. CEMA load rating. The combination labyrinth and contact seal has been proven in the field to be far superior to cartridge-type or conventional labyrinth seals used in many so-called heavy-duty idlers.

The SDX-2200 idlers feature the following:

  • Up to 2” engineered shaft (reduced to 1 1/4” at bearing) is available for additional load capacity
  • Adjusting nut provides additional protection to seal area and establishes a very precise bearing adjustment
  • Positive hold down includes drop-in rolls that are factory assembled and positively secured with a sturdy 3/8” bolt
  • External labyrinth seal is a unique roll head and nut combination that produces an extremely long path, close tolerance labyrinth seal
  • Interchangeable rolls are wing and center rolls, either sealed or regreaseable, that are completely interchangeable, reducing spare part requirements and simplifying field service
  • Anti-lock end bracket provides ample clearance to prevent spilled material from wedging between roll and end bracket
  • Extra-heavy die-formed bracket is designed with a super-wide base and direct mounting to end angle
  • Rigid one-piece jig welded frame ensures accurate roll positioning, simplifying belt training, and greatly reducing friction and roll wear
  • Uniform wall thickness eliminates potential source of roll vibration

Our SDX-2200 idlers are available in the following configurations:

In addition, the SDX-2200 series idlers feature the following:

  • Groove-lock connection of machined head and tube provides a truly concentric roll assembly and bearing alignment for long-life operation
  • Re-lubrication system includes bearings that are positively greased from one fitting on either side; positive purging of the bearing cavity prevents excessive back pressure which could blow seals and lock rolls
  • Combination lip and labyrinth seal is a combination of multiple labyrinths and contact lip seal provide close tolerance seal and maximum seal integrity
  • Heavy-section cast ductile head and nut is precision machined for accurate roll and bearing fit, assuring uniformity and dimensional accuracy

Both sealed and re-greaseable designs are available. 

HXF-40 series

The HXF-40 series, which incorporates a 40 mm spherical roller bearing, exceeds CEMA F idler load standards and is designed for today’s super high-capacity operations.  Applications include high-tonnage mining and industrial applications, mining operations with overburden removal, and underground longwall coal mining operations that want to closer match tonnage rates to longwall mining machines.

  • Back seal that allows for a large grease reservoir
  • Flinger to employ natural centrifugal forces generated by a rotating idler roll, redirecting potential contaminants away from the bearing cavity
